The Trials of Mana Movie is a fantasy film adapted from the Super Nintendo game, Secret of Mana. The movie tells the story of the trials that Randi, Purim, and Popoi go through in order to learn the true meaning of courage. It has been edited down using the 9 part web series 'Trials of Mana'.
The Mana trio finally uncover the truth about the fabled Sage Joch, as well as some other home truths.
Popoi and Lumina are still trapped by the minotaur. While safe for now under the lucid barrier spell, there is only so long it can last.
As you may have noticed, the latest release has been released under the guise of being Episode 8 of The Trials of Mana. It is no longer strictly being called Season 2, Episode 8 of The Series of Mana. Why is this? A very good question.
The Trials story arc is a 9 episode long story on the events from around 2/3 of the way through Secret of Mana, with the emphasis being on the heroes taking the journey to learn the true meaning of courage, and the trials they go through set by Sage Joch. So, yes, despite the name, the show is still about the Secret of Mana game, and not the Seiken Densentsu 3/Trials of Mana game. Though, keen fans will have noticed the odd musical remix and cameo from the latter.
I have taken this decision because I consider what was the 2nd season as a superior way of doing the show, and I would rather not feel that people need to first watch all of Season 1 first, especially as the Trials arc can really be viewed stand alone, with the events that came before being summed up within the first episode in a few minutes.
What of the first season?
Good question. As of today, it is no longer viewable. I intend to re-edit, reframe, and revamp elements to make it more in line with how I did the Trials series, with more of a story book narrative focus. It will then be rebranded under a slightly different name and released again. I have spent years of hard work trying to make this show, and had a lot of heartache doing so for one reason or another. I have to be happy it is the best I can do with the limitations I have. And, as always, time improves skills, and it can be done again better (note: not refilmed from the ground up - I am not that insane!).
The Series of Mana name will still serve as a parental umbrella that both shows sit under. After that, I can look to the future for how to best edit the remaining pieces of the story into a 3rd show that will solely looks at the last parts of the game.
So, there you have it. If you really want, you can still view them as seasons of the same show, as it is a journey that continues to the next 'show', but, for the reasons I have described, I wish to make each arc stand alone, and, above all else, make it as best as I can
